Why a Vaisnava Sanga retreat?

Preparation for Vaisnava Sanga 2019

The idea of having a seminar was developed with HH Bhakti Caitanya Swami and a small group of devotees. The first seminar was held at the University of Johannesburg  in 2014, followed by Wits University in 2015. In 2016 a Japa Workshop was held at Iskcon Midrand.

We found that devotees were still distracted by their services and often times they would not be able to take advantage of the entire program because of commitments and travelling time. Based on feedback and suggestions from the devotee community, it was decided that we needed to create an experience that facilitated devotees being away from the hustle and bustle of their daily lives, in a place where they could just get away from it all and focus fully on their spiritual development.
In this way, from 2017 onwards, the seminars evolved into the current Vaisnava Sanga Drakensberg retreats.
The positive feedback reinforced the idea that the retreats can contribute towards strengthening devotees in a wholesome way.
In preparation for Vaisnava Sanga 2019, the following was considered:

1. Feedback from devotees who attended Vaisnava Sanga 2018
2. How to deepen the experience
3. The advice of various devotees on the relevance to the SA devotee community

The following is a diagramatic representation of why we are doing Vaisnava Sanga 2019

Some benefits of attending a retreat

1. Retreats creat lasting impressions in the long term
2. Retreats provide peace away from your daily routine
3. Nature heals and helps you unwind and releases stress
4. You’re surrounded by like-minded company
5. You have access to senior spiritual guidance
6. No worries about cooking

“Srila Prabhupada used to say that ISKCON is the only personal movement when the whole world is becoming impersonalistic. ISKCON is actually allowing people, reminding people and facilitating people to develop personal relationships. So it is very painful that instead of being aware of the fact that we have to become personal, our extremely busy schedules is not enabling us to become personal.”
HH Bhakti Caru Swami
